Mercy Plus’s Fieldwork Student Program is designed for team members actively working toward BCBA or BCaBA certification. You’ll earn paid, hands-on experience, work alongside experienced clinicians, and progress through a structured development pathway that prepares you for greater clinical responsibility at every stage.

Compensation
$23–$25 per hour while you build your experience
Fieldwork/Practicum Students earn $23–$25/hour while building their experience at Mercy Plus.
You continue gaining direct client experience while receiving dedicated opportunities to develop the broader clinical skills required as you advance through the program.

Fieldwork should prepare you for more than meeting certification requirements. At Mercy Plus, students build clinical skills gradually through direct experience, mentorship, feedback, and increasing responsibility.
As you progress, you’ll move from foundational client care and technician support into areas like data analysis, clinical documentation, assessments, treatment programming, staff training, family collaboration, and other skills you’ll use as a future BCBA or BCaBA.
What comes after fieldwork?
Fieldwork Student → Clinical Assistant → BCBA / BCaBA
Once fieldwork requirements are completed, eligible team members can transition into our Clinical Assistant role while preparing for the BCBA or BCaBA exam.
The Clinical Assistant stage is designed to keep you immersed in the clinical environment, continue building your skills, and prepare you to transition successfully into a clinician role once you pass your exam.

A competency-based progression
Progression through the Fieldwork Student Program is competency-based. Students complete the requirements of each level’s syllabus and work closely with their supervising BCBA to determine readiness for the next stage.

The three levels
What each level covers
Level 1 — Build your foundation
Develop your skills in treatment-plan implementation, data collection, behavior technician support, ABC and IOA data, training, and evidence-based practice under BCBA supervision.
Level 2 — Expand your clinical experience
Take on more advanced responsibilities such as data analysis, clinical documentation, progress summaries, staff performance support, literature review, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Level 3 — Prepare for clinical practice
Gain exposure to assessments, FBAs, program development, skill-acquisition and behavior-reduction programming, family training, case openings, clinical documentation, and treatment planning.

Clinical decision-making
Learn to use behavioral data and observation to inform treatment.
Treatment programming
Progress toward developing and monitoring skill-acquisition and behavior-reduction programs.
Assessment experience
Build exposure to ABC data, IOA, assessments, FBAs, and other clinical processes.
Leadership & technician support
Practice coaching, modeling interventions, providing feedback, and supporting treatment integrity.
Clinical documentation
Develop experience with notes, summaries, treatment documentation, and payer-related requirements.
Family & team collaboration
Participate in caregiver training, planning meetings, and interdisciplinary care.
